Technical Director

The Production Manager / Technical Director is the connection between clients and crew. This person is the glue that holds the pieces of a project together from the initial bid through installation, strike and job reconciliation.

Because this person not only wears the Tractor Vision hat, but is in many ways the only contact for clients, it is crucial that this person possess charisma, an artistic eye with a profound dedication to the role, attention to detail, and a concrete grasp on construction techniques and materials.

We're looking for those with an exceptional record of quality control, and references to prove you know how to stay on time and on budget. This is not an entry level role, although an apprenticeship may be considered separately.

Requirements

  • Generate estimates for projects based on client’s requirements/needs.
    ● Ability to handle independently multiple projects up to $500k at one time.
    ● Discuss + define specifications of jobs with clients and crew.
    ● Specify colors, texture, and materials for items and builds.
    ● Explain and source props, materials, and specialty supplies.
    ● Timely monitor and produce information for technical designs, working closely with our in house technical designer.
    ● Demonstrate ability to read and translate technical designs and build docs into actionable items.
    ● Determine timeline for project with Management and clearly communicate / manage deliverables and expectations with clients and crew.
    ● Maintain detailed quality control and oversight on all projects from budget to materials to aesthetic/presentation to installation / strike.
  • ● Maintain tight reins on job costing and projections
    ● Manage job costing, invoicing and contracts.
    ● Maintain client relationships with the utmost professionalism and Tractor Vision standards of excellence.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in custom fabrication, specifically the Entertainment or Events industry, directly managing clients and fabrication.
  • Experience and understanding of fabrication industry. If your vocabulary does not include “Hollywood Flat, MDF, COI, Laminates, 14 gauge, narrow crown staple and so forth” please do not apply.
  • 3+ years estimating budgets $200k+ preferred.

Required Skills

  • Ability to manipulate Excel Spreadsheet and understanding of cloud based tools (Google Drive).
  • Ability to translate build docs into actionable items
  • Ability to break down a project in construction, finishing and logistical elements
  • Technical knowledge: Sketchup and VectorWorks highly preferred but no required.

Compensation

$128,391.35 - $141,309.36 annualized
